Countdown to Trader Joe’s: T-minus 1 day. 🗓️
While we’re sure none of you actually needed that reminder, Trader Joe’s is only 1 of the many major developments in Chattanooga, and we’ll be honest — it can be hard to keep up with all them, especially when some are years in the making.
To make it a bit easier, we’ve rounded up some of the top local developments in the works.

CHI Memorial Stadium Development
This East Ridge development has several updates going on — the stadium's executive club and sky suites plan to open in weeks, the player clubhouse, locker rooms, and weight room are under construction, land has been cleared + prep work is underway to bring in new tenants, and ground will be broken within days for the residential elements of the development.
MLK Development
The site of the upcoming Slim and Husky’s Pizza Beeria restaurant will also be home to a full mixed-use development featuring office spaces + artwork.

ONE Riverfront
The ONE Riverfront Master Plan was recently revealed to the public, detailing plans to completely revitalize the riverfront district — starting at 4th Street + extending to the river, spanning horizontally from Olgiati Bridge to Veterans Bridge — by adding business and housing opportunities, making the area more pedestrian-friendly + adding amenities like shade, comfortable seating, art, and plants.
Reflection Riding
Several months ago, Reflection Riding released its “Framework for the Future,” a multi-year vision with plans for greater accessibility, a new visitor center, a canopy walk, and digital tools.

The Bend
The Bend is another riverfront development project that will encompass the area surrounding the former Alstom industrial site (aka, the place you likely visited if you got tested for COVID-19). The development aims to be a walkable, urban neighborhood, but we’ll let this video do the talking.
Westside Evolves
This development’s vision is to revitalize the neighborhood while preserving its community + history, including plans to extend Sheila Jennings Park, create an activated central lawn, incorporate several small green spaces, and more.
Which development gets you most excited?
We're not gonna lie, that video for The Bend got us.

Biz
- You herd it here first (maybe not, but the pun is still good). Volkswagen Chattanooga’s 50-acre solar farm, Silicon Ranch, houses a herd of over 50 sheep that keep the grasses trimmed + the soil healthy. A few rescued donkeys also trail around the ranch to keep predators away. 🐑 (Chattanooga Times Free Press)
Community
- McKamey Animal Center is teaming up with animal shelters across the country to “Clear the Shelters.” The adoption drive will take place through Sept. 19, and each adoption comes with a chance to spin a prize wheel to win gift cards to local businesses, pet supplies + more. 🐶
Closing
- The Center for Mindful Living is offering its last week of classes — the business will close on Aug. 31. Yoga + meditation classes will take place at the St. Elmo Fire Hall throughout the week and a closing celebration is happening on Sept. 16.
Announced
- The Rail & Hops Brewers Festival is postponed until May 7, 2022, due to the rapid rise of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations. Originally scheduled for Aug. 28, the festival will feature 40 craft breweries and music from Lee Fields & The Expressions + local artists. (The Pulse)
Coronavirus
- Yesterday, the FDA gave full approval to Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine. This decision comes after the FDA authorized use of a third dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine for those with severely weakened immune systems. The Hamilton County Health Department is offering free Pfizer vaccinations at multiple locations this week. (Chattanooga Times Free Press)
- The Hamilton County Health Department is providing free COVID-19 testing again for adults as the continued surge of COVID-19 cases strains Chattanooga's limited testing capacity + residents struggle to find timely testing options. Free testing at the Riverpark vaccination site will be self-administered. (Chattanooga Times Free Press)
Edu
- This fall, 14 virtual Advanced Placement courses will be offered to Tennessee high schoolers for free through the AP Access for All program. Locally, this will provide opportunities for students who typically cannot take AP classes and students with scheduling conflicts + will train more teachers to teach AP courses. 📓 (Chattanooga Times Free Press)
Noogan
- Former Hamilton County Commissioner Rev. Paul McDaniel recently died at 91. McDaniel was a lauded minister + civil rights pioneer — who was present at the 1965 march in Selma and challenged a law that disallowed ministers from serving in government. (NewsChannel 9)
Finance
- Have good credit? Consider these high-paying cash back credit cards — you could enjoy offers like a massive $200 bonus, up to 3% cash back, or 0% interest for 15 months. Shop your categories — groceries, travel, dining + more — and earn big rewards. Ⓟ
Chattanooga’s Lynnbrook Park was recently featured in the National Recreation and Park Assocaition’s September magazine issue.
The magazine article about the Oak Grove community park discusses how the current project will “[convert] an empty lot with a history of flooding to a functional park with a restored stream that will serve as a central natural feature of the park.”
The Lynnbrook Park has an anticipated completion date of spring 2022, but in the meantime, you can read the full story in NRPA’s e-magazine. 🌳
