Former Hamilton County Commissioner, Rev. Paul McDaniel has died

Chattanooga minister and former Hamilton County Commissioner, Rev. Paul McDaniel has passed away.

Mayor Coppinger posted on Twitter saying, "We are saddened to learn of the passing of former Hamilton County Commissioner Paul McDaniel. Reverend McDaniel's groundbreaking leadership and integrity has had a lasting impact on our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time."

A county building off East Third Street is named in honor of the former County Commissioner.

McDaniel was 91 years old.

Former Mayor of Chattanooga, Andy Berke took to Twitter to send his condolences.

Tim Kelly also expressing sympathy.

Representative Chuck Fleischmann has also commented on Rev. McDaniel's death.

Eric A. Atkins of the Unity Group of Chattanooga released a statement:

Today, we were informed on the loss of our longtime former Chairman and Chairman Emeritus Rev. Paul A. McDaniel. His passing is a heavy loss. We pray for his family, the Second Missionary Baptist Church family and to all who knew and served with him. We are comforted in the fact that he can now be counted as one with the great assembly of hosts and is now amongst the great cloud of witnesses. Farewell leader, teacher, mentor, trailblazer, advocate, revolutionary and friend until we see you once more on the other side of the river .
