Here are 10 fast facts about the Scenic City:
๐ | The world famous MoonPie was created at the Chattanooga Bakery in 1917. It was perfect for coal miners because they were filling, only cost 5 cents, and fit in a lunch pail. By 1929, hundreds were being boxed every day.
๐ | Tow trucks were first created in Chattanooga in the 1910โs. A garage worker named Ernest Holmes Sr. was inspired to create the wrecker + lifting jib after he needed the help of 6 men to pull a car from a creek.
๐ฅค | In 1899, 2 Chattanooga lawyers, Benjamin F. Thomas + Joseph B. Whitehead, bought the Coca-Cola bottling rights for $1. They opened the first Coca-Cola bottling company at 17 Market St.
โณ๏ธ | The first patented mini golf course was created in Chattanooga in 1927 by Garnet Carter, a true fore-father. Carter was an inventor + the founder of Rock City Gardens, as well.
๐ | The Walnut Street Bridge is 1 of the longest pedestrian bridges in the entire world, at 2,376 ft. long. It was built in 1891 + is the oldest surviving Camelback Truss Bridge.
๐ข | The Lookout Mountain Incline Railway is one of the steepest passenger railway lines in the world at a 72.7% grade.
๐ป | Chattanooga was the first city in the world to provide gig internet speeds for its customers. EPB offers speeds of 1Gbps, while the average US download speed is 25.86Mbps.
๐ผ | The Hunter Museum has 1 of the largest collections of American art in the country. The Hunter is a national model for how art museums transform their communities.
๐ | Chickamauga and Chattanooga Military Park is the first + largest National Military Park in America.

- The Tennessee Valley Authorityโs STEM Classroom Grant Program is now open for applications through Oct. 18. Eligible applicants are teachers or school administrators in public or private schools, grades K-12. Schools must be in the TVA service area + receive electricity from a local power distributor served by TVA. ๐ธ
- As a new school year is underway, The Enterprise Center wants to remind the community that enrollment is open for HCS EdConnect. The program, powered by EPB, installs high-speed internet in the homes of families who qualify at no cost.

- Erlanger Baroness Hospital was recognized by the American Heart Association + the American Stroke Associationโs โGet with the Guidelinesโ program as a Gold Plus organization for the fifth year in a row. - The Chattanooga Red Wolves SC is asking fans to bring school supplies to the home game tomorrow vs. North Texas SC to support Hamilton County teachers. The team is partnering with Hamilton County Schools for Educator Appreciation Night and to help stock the Teacher Store.
History
- The TVA recently donated a historic Fairbanks-Morse locomotive in Gallatin to the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum in Chattanooga. Known as the โBabyโ Train Master, this locomotive was built in 1958 and is 1 of only 9 Fairbanks-Morse locomotives preserved today. ๐ (The Tennessean)
