Calling all movers and shakers. Are you ready to become an even more engaged citizen? Do you want to know more about the goings-on in our city before they happen? You can make your voice heard by serving as a volunteer member of one of Chattanooga’s 51 boards and commissions. |

As a board member, you can weigh in on topics like appearance or planning, advise on changes to our local parks + greenways, or contribute to historic development and preservation of cemeteries. Members are nominated and appointed by the The City of Chattanooga City Council and Mayor Tim Kelly. To be considered, you must submit an application to the board or commission of your choosing. Who can apply? -
Any citizen residing in Chattanooga can apply. Pro tip: Depending on the position, certain subject matter expertise may be required. Read the vacancy’s listing to see what it takes.
What are the term limits? -
The City of Chattanooga currently observes a three-year term length. Individuals may serve on a maximum of three boards at any given time. To make sure the time commitment fits with your personal schedule, you can view meeting times on
each individual board or commission landing page via the City website.
Where do I find vacancies? -
Available seats are listed on the City’s Granicus page. For example, current vacancies include the Animal Control Board, Chattanooga Land Bank Authority, Chattanooga Public Art Commission, Library Board of Directors, and Scenic Cities Beautiful Commission.

The McNabb Center was awarded over $177,000 to expand its housing facilities in Chattanooga. The state grant will allow the recovery center — the region’s leading nonprofit provider of mental health + substance abuse services — to serve 50% more individuals at its housing site on Old Ringgold Road. 🏠 (The Pulse)

The Mayor’s Youth Council is currently accepting applications for the 2022-2023 school year. Rising high school juniors or seniors interested in local government are encouraged to apply. Pro tip: Intern Gabriella was on former Mayor Berke’s Youth Council and recommends the experience to anyone interested.
Traffic -
Stringers Ridge Tunnel will be closed on Wed., June 22 from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. for TDOT contractor work. There will also be single-lane closures in each direction in McCallie Tunnels during the same time frame. Detours will be posted.
Edu -
Chattanooga State Community College was awarded over $1 million through the federal Perkins Grant program. The college was one of seven Tennessee community + technical colleges awarded grants to boost career and technical education programs. (Chattanoogan.com)

Hamilton County Schools recently invested $950,000 — and hopes for an additional $1 million from the Hamilton County Commission — to put security officers in every school building. The school board also approved a $2 hourly raise for school lunch staff. (Chattanooga Times Free Press)

This week is National Pollinator Week. To celebrate, TDOT released a series of educational videos about pollination + Tennessee’s native pollinator species — featuring animated narrator Polli the Tennessee Bee. Locally, Reflection Riding Arboretum & Nature Center will host the Pollinator Power Party on Sat., June 25 to celebrate. 🐝

Due to predicted high temperatures, Play Wash Pint announced its new summer operating hours to beat the heat. The dog park bar will now be closed from 2-6 p.m. on weekdays, and open instead from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. + 6-10 p.m. Weekend hours will remain the same. 🐶
