- During Startup Week, 8 entrepreneurs took home top prizes from the annual Startup Awards. Some highlights: Be Caffeinated won Startup of the Year, She Trucking took home Launch Chattanooga’s Micro Business of the Year, and Hoff & Pepper won INCubator’s Goldfinch of the Year. 🏆
- The US Small Business Administration delivered aid to 12 Chattanooga businesses through the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant, a fund distributed to entertainment venues struggling during the pandemic. The Tivoli Foundation, Tennessee Aquarium, and Riverbend host Friends of the Festival received the largest grants — with funding ranging from $2-$8.5 million. (NewsChannel 9)

- West Village’s new taco shop 423 Taco opened last Friday, and we can confirm that it’s pretty darn good. We tried the veggie fajitas, and made sure to snag a pic in front of the Instagrammable wall. You can check out the new spot at 212 W. 8th St. 🌮
- 2nd & Charles, a national retailer selling new + used books and pop culture items, is opening its first Tennessee location right here in Chattanooga. The store will offer giveaways, activities, and special offers as part of its grand opening on Sat., Oct. 30. (Chattanoogan.com)
Outdoors
- Chattanooga is now a Tennessee RiverTown, part of a program designed to create a consistent trail experience all along the 652-mile Tennessee River. The partnership gives Chattanooga access to funding, grants, outreach programs + research along with 20 other communities.
Film
- Lo Main Bodega owner Justin Savage + Stove Works owner Charlotte Caldwell have partnered to host the “Electra Drive-In” at Stove Works’ courtyard,1250 E. 13 St. The first installment took place on Oct. 23 with screenings of classic horror films “Night of the Living Dead” and “Bubba Ho-Tep.” 🎥 (Chattanooga Times Free Press)

- The University of Tennessee system recently expanded eligibility for the UT Promise scholarship. The UT Promise scholarship guarantees free tuition + fees after other financial aid is received — since its inception in 2019, more than 1,800 students have enrolled at a UT campus, including UTC, tuition-free. State
- Tennessee’s Department of Education is hosting 8 town hall hearings across the state to promote public engagement as officials review the current K-12 education funding formula. Chattanooga’s meeting will take place on Nov. 4 at The Howard School at 5:30 p.m. (NewsChannel 9)
Arts
- The Photographic Society of Chattanooga is hosting a reception at the Gallery at Blackwell on Oct. 29 from 6-8 p.m. to present its Fall Holiday show. The public is welcome to come out and view the fine art images of the members. 🖼️
