The Torchlight Gala is the Chattanooga Audubon Society’s biggest annual fundraiser. The society’s mission is to “educate and promote an understanding of the responsibility to preserve and protect our environmental, cultural, and historical resources through programming and stewardship.”
Did you know? The Audubon Society is responsible for managing 4 separate nature and wildlife sanctuaries in the Chattanooga area + each 1 protects a unique ecosystem.

- The Construction Career Center is a $5.5 million project that will transform the former Mary Ann Garber School into a workforce development hub for the construction industry — set to open in August 2022. This center will offer a vocational training academy for high schoolers + other construction training programs. 👷

- After months of negotiations, CHI Memorial and BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee have reached a 3-year agreement. The new contract allows BlueCross members with commercial + Medicare Advantage plans to use services at CHI Memorial, CHI Memorial Medical Group, and The Chattanooga Heart Institute on an in-network basis. - Bridge Refugee Services is preparing to facilitate the resettlement of Afghan refugees following the escalating situation in Afghanistan. Donations and volunteers are helpful to Bridge Refugee Services’ mission + goals. (Chattanooga Times Free Press)

- ArtsBuild announced this year’s recipients of the Tennessee Arts Commission’s Arts Build Communities grants. The grantees are Art 120, Scenic City Clay Arts, The Chattery, Chattanooga High School Center for Creative Arts, East Ridge Creative Arts, Stove Works, and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

- The Hamilton County Health Department is launching a text-message COVID-19 case investigation system beginning today. Hamilton County residents who test positive for COVID-19 may receive a text-message from the health department asking them to complete their case investigation online. This system replaces the phone interview. (WRCB)
- Hamilton County Schools is hosting a free vaccination event today from 1-3 p.m. during the current district-wide school closure — open to staff, students, and the public. The vaccination event will take place at Sale Creek Middle High School. 💉

- The Hamilton County Highway Department announced that the W Road on Signal Mountain will be closed today from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. for storm drain + road maintenance. Plan to use Signal Mountain Blvd. or Roberts Mill Rd. to access/leave Signal Mountain. 🚧

- In observance of Patriot Day, The Chattanooga Zoo is offering free admission to first responders — including firefighters, EMTs, uniformed police officers, state troopers, etc. — from Sept. 11-17. - Culture Chatt and the Chattanooga School of Language are partnering to host a “Cultural Experience” on Sept. 11 at White Oak Park. This event will include a personal hygiene products donation drive for the Chattanooga Free Store, free coffee/tea from Be Caffeinated, curated items from IGOTOKYO + more.
