East Ridge Police Department Starting ‘Take Me Home’ Program

East Ridge, TN (WDEF): The East Ridge Police Department is adopting Chattanooga Police’s ‘Take Me Home‘ Program.

It’s a free program designed to help law enforcement in emergency situations with people with disabilities.

Those individuals may be unable to speak or act unusual when around first responders.

By enrolling in the program, the police department will have access to a current picture, demographic information, and emergency contacts.

If East Ridge Police encounter the individual, they can use that information to help.

Chief Stan Allen with East Ridge Police Department says, “People can register relatives who might be autistic or suffer from dementia. People that have a tendency to wander away sometimes and not really know who they are or can’t verbalize who they are or where they live. So, the family can enter these people into a database that’s searchable by our officers.”

Chief Stan Allen says the most important part of this new program is for people to sign up.
